I can't remember the name of this movie! What is it? From the early to mid 90s.?

A man is estranged from his young daughter until her mother is taken to prison for some reason or another and his daughter comes to live with him. I remember her being a complete brat, and she actually gets an acting deal when someone hears her scream in a stairwell. She ends up on a TV show and at one point she runs off the set to hug her dad in a particularly moving moment. I think the title might be a song. I'm pretty sure it's from the early to mid 90s.
