Should we get the shore excursions offered by the cruise?

I have taken shore excursions provided through the ship and thought they where well worth the money. The best thing about taking an excursion provided through the cruise line is that if for some reason your excursion is running late they will notify the ship and the ship will wait on you. Also if something happens and you can not dock at a port of call because of weather, if you booked the excursion through your cruise line you would get a refund.
